Dear Parents and Dancers,
The Nutcracker auditions will be held during the week of Aug. 27 through Sept. 2, 2023. As you make your decision to audition or not, remember that choosing to be a part of Ballet Hawaii’s The Nutcracker is a commitment to which most other commitments must fall aside for the time being. It is an incredible experience to be part of a professional production with our special guest artists. The amount of time, energy, and dedication needed from you must be on this same professional level. Below are some general guidelines to help you make your decision to participate or not.
An audition schedule is detailed below. If you choose to audition, please be on time and prepared.
A Nutcracker orientation meeting will be scheduled once casting has been completed in September. This meeting will provide more detailed information on the Nutcracker experience and give you time to ask us questions in person.
Important Information:
For Audition Day:
? Dancers must be 7-years-old by 12/01/2023 to audition. Auditioning does not guarantee you a role.
? Complete your electronic audition form online as soon as possible and prior to the day of your audition class. https://form.jotform.com/222247490639865
? Measurements will be taken of each auditionee before class by our wardrobe mistress Ms. Yoshie or by Ms. Micki.
? Ballet 6, 7 and 8 students please wear pointe shoes on your audition day.
? Dancers are auditioning to participate in The Nutcracker production, not for a specific role.
Casting Info:
? Only students who are enrolled in the complete 2023/2024 Fall & Winter sessions may audition.
? Casting is based on consistency in attendance, arrival to class on time, wearing the appropriate school uniform, adherence to studio etiquette as provided by your teacher, student behavior, technical level and artistry, height and costuming compatibility.
? Casting will be completed by September.
? Role(s) will be sent electronically via email this year. Please make sure your email information is up-to-date. A prompt confirmation of your acceptance of role(s) will be required.
? Some students may be selected to understudy certain roles. The expectations for an understudy are the same as those of a fully cast role.
? Production fees will range from $90-$150 depending on your role and the number of roles a student is cast in.
? Dancers and their parents are required to sign a contract of commitment
? All rehearsals & costume fittings are MANDATORY
? Excused absences allowed are limited to:
¦ Death in the family
¦ Academic school event with a signed teacher’s note only
¦ Illness (including Covid-19)/injury with a signed doctor’s note only
? We cannot allow students to be in Nutcracker if a trip/vacation has been scheduled that will keep a student from any of his/her rehearsals.
Rehearsal Info
? Rehearsals for all roles will begin after all casting has been completed which for some could be as early as September.
? Rehearsals range from 45 minutes to 2 hours depending on the role and age of participants. They occur any day of the week Monday through Sunday. Rehearsals will not go past 8:00 PM on the weekdays. Schedules are subject to change.
? There will be rehearsals on Thanksgiving weekend and Black Friday. Schedule to come.
Other Info
? Mandatory initial costume fittings will be announced later in September. Schedule to come.
? Mandatory final costume fittings and a professional photography shoot will be held on Sunday Nov. 19, 2023. Schedule and photo order form to come.
? Parents will be asked to volunteer for at least one performance, critical rehearsal or event relevant to your child. Information to come.
