Urashima Taro & By George

This summer, Ballet Hawaii presents two very special ballets in its culmination performance of three weeks of Summer Intensive training where students and professional guest dancers come together onstage. The performance will be held, one time only, on Saturday July 22, 2023 at 4:00 pm at Leeward Community College.

Urashima Taro is a familiar Japanese folktale about a young fisherman and his adventures beneath the sea. The music of this child-friendly ballet has been composed by Ballet Hawaii’s own talented accompanist, takashi koshi, and has been freshly choreographed by Ballet Hawaii teacher and Performing Ensemble director, Christine Kaminski with costumes by Yoshie Huffman. The second ballet, By George, set by Maiqui Mañosa, is a fun-filled celebration of George Gershwin’s music choreographed by Tom Pazik. Featured guest artists are here courtesy of Eugene Ballet, Carolina Ballet, Cleveland Ballet, and Sacramento Ballet.
